Museum Trip Blog

Hi, Everyone:

This blog replaces the much maligned class trip to the Worcester Art Museum that has been done in the past for this class.

Your project is this:I would like you to do is the following three exercises by October 1st:

1. Arrange a visit to the Worcester Art Museum on your own time. The museum is open daily except for Mondays. You can find their hours, admission fees and directions at their website (www.worcesterart.org).

2. Once you're inside, I would like you to visit each floor of the museum, picking at least one artwork (must be a drawing, painting, print, or other 2-D media)from each floor (one must be the Jackson Pollock piece located on the second floor)and report via this blog the following regarding each:

a. Name of the work, media, the artist who created it, year the work was completed, and the dimensions (may be approximate.
b. Note the way the medium was used;i.e. was the paint applied thickly, thinly or in between? What is the color scheme? Does the work emit a feeling of peace & tranquility; chaos and disorder; or some emotion in-between?
c. I there an obvious concept, or idea being presented by the artist? If not, what are your ideas regarding the use of concept. Is there a narrative, or is the concept, formal?
d. Make an argument either for the work being good, or being bad. As long as you address the ealier points ("a", "b", and "c" above), you may use personal opinions/feelings in your argument.

3. Visit and comment on at least three of your classmates posts to this site, one of which will be commenting on their Jackson Pollock "critique".

Realize that this will act as an open forum for the class, so take that into consideration when composing your posts. You will not be graded on grammar and spelling (although since you are in college, I would expect you to make an effort!), but instead on accuracy of your statements/information in regards to the pieces being discussed.

If you have problems posting, refer to the notes on the handout I gave you in class, or email me.

Thank you and good luck! REMEMBER: Deadline is October 1st
